The Hawley Nuggets Boys basketball team had their ’23-’24 Season come to an end on Saturday night in Park Rapids, as the Panthers got off to a quick start, up at one point 16-10.  Hawley had made a comeback to pull to within a score of 30-24, before the Panthers opened up an 11 point halftime lead, 38-27.   Park Rapids got off to a good second half start, opening up a 55-36 lead with about 11 minutes left.  Hawley did manage to get the lead into single digits in the second half, down 65-57, with about a minute left.  In the end the Panthers closed out a 67-57 victory to advance into the Semi-Finals of Section 8AA, against WDC on Wednesday 3/13 at Concordia-Moorhead at 7:45pm.  The other side of the bracket had #1 Seed Pelican Rapids ending the Perham Yellowjackets Season 57-45 and #5 East Grand Forks ended the #4 Seed Barnesville Trojans Season, 78-72 in Overtime on Saturday night.  Pelican Rapids plays East Grand Forks at 6pm on Wednesday 3/13 at Concordia-Moorhead.  The two winners meet Friday 3/15 at 7pm at Concordia-Moorhead for the right to go to the State Tournament.  Back to Hawley, the Nuggets had four Seniors on the roster, as Brevin Stoa, Landon Bakke (leading scorer Saturday with 19) and Jack Justesen played their last game and the final Senior, Devaun Stock, was on the bench, after an injury back in August, did not allow him to play in his Senior Season.  Congratulations to all four, as they Graduate in May.  Again, as normal, the four Seniors were the Muscatell Burns Ford MVP’s of the Game for the final game of the year. Hawley ended their Season at 14-12.  Hawley Spring Sports practices are beginning shortly and we’ll cover a couple of Baseball and Softball regular Season games and their Post Season runs on KRCQ, in May/June.
