Hawley Nuggets Girls Basketball team played the Pelican Rapids Vikings in the Semi-Finals

The Hawley Nuggets Girls Basketball team played the Pelican Rapids Vikings in the Semi-Finals of the Section 8AA Girls Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night.  Hawley upended the #3 Seed Menahga Lady Braves in the Quarterfinals, while #2 Seed Pelican Rapids beat Frazee in Triple Overtime in the quarterfinals, to set up the Semi-Finals matchup.  The Nuggets went on a 7-0 run to take an early lead 9-5 and opened up a 15 point….31-16 lead at the half.  Pelican Rapids then went on a 16-9 run to open the second half to get into single digits and kept up the scoring, with 3-3’s by Freshman Arianna Hovland and 2-3’s by Junior Anna Roisum to tie the game at 51 at the end of regulation.  In the overtime period, it was all Vikings, as they outscored the Nuggets 9-2 to get the come from behind victory 60-53 and move to the Section Championship game on Friday 3/8/24 at 7pm at Concordia-Moorhead to take on the #1 Seed Perham Yellowjackets, who beat #4 Barnesville 65-53 in the other Quarterfinals match on Wednesday.  For Hawley, the Nuggets finished their Season at 15-12.  Hawley was led from Junior Ingrid Rustad with 17 and 12 from Sophmore McKenna Walker.  The Seniors, that played their final Basketball games were….Julie Strom (who missed the season with and injury), Sierra Blakeway, Emma Brookshire, Lily Thompson, Leah Tibbitts and Jesa Somdahl.  As we do, the final game of the year, each was named the Muscatell Burns Ford MVP of the game.  Congratulations on a Great Season to the Hawley Lady Nuggets.
