St. Paul, MN- A bill in Minnesota could offer a financial incentive to farmers who ensure their land meets state water quality guidelines. The bill proposes a tax credit of $5 per acre for land certified by the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program. Republican Representative Steven Jacob from southeastern Minnesota is sponsoring the bill. Ten years ago, he was one of the first farmers in the state to have his land certified by the program. The House Agriculture Committee has scheduled a hearing on the bill next week.
