The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of scam calls. Today’s scam was reporting that Sgt. Mekash of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the public and was requesting payments to satisfy warrants through digital currency like Bitcoin. The scammers are even changing the caller ID to show the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office Substation phone number of 218-367-6300. This is a reminder that the Sheriff’s Office will never request payments via gift cards, bitcoin, money orders, etc. If you receive a suspicious phone call that you feel may not be legitimate please contact the dispatch center at 218 998 8555 to report such activity.
