The Moorhead Spuds brought their offense to the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse on Tuesday night, finishing the night with 98 points and beating the Lakers by a final score of 98-79. Dylan Zimmerman finished the night with 43 points as the Spuds snapped the Lakers eight game winning streak. The loss is the first of the season at home for the Lakers as they are now 11-1 in games played at their homecourt. Moorhead jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the early stages of the first half, and then the Lakers found their footing and took their only lead of the game, leading 19-17. After that point, the Spuds went on to outscore the Lakers 30-18 to take a 49-37 lead into halftime. The Spuds continued their impressive offensive night, with Zimmerman connecting on four three-pointers in the second half, finishing the game with a total of nine three-pointers. Reign Battle also had a strong offensive night for Moorhead, finishing the game with 23 points. The Lakers saw offense exclusively from their starting five, with Devon Berg finishing the night with 36 points. Mason Carrier finished the game with a double-double, as he scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds. Carrier, who moved to second on the all-time scoring list in Laker boys basketball history, passing Adam Thielen on Saturday night against Grand Rapids, also moved his name into the record books in the rebound category. Carrier is now number one all-time in career rebounds with 584 rebounds, surpassing Brian Labat, who previously held the mark at 579, according to the Detroit Lakes boys basketball Facebook page. The loss drops the Lakers record to 20-3 overall and they will look to bounce back on Thursday night when they travel to Aitkin.
