St. Paul, Minn. (KVRR/KFGO) – Minnesota lawmakers began the 2024 legislative session at noon on Monday, and one issue that could come up early on is what backers call end-of-life options. House Republican Minority Leader Lisa Demuth says Democrats’ pre-session hearing and committee vote makes it their top issue as they go back into session. She says, “We do not support physician-assisted suicide. What we do support is compassion and dignity.” Incoming Senate Democratic Majority Leader Erin Murphy says, as a registered nurse, she appreciates why people want control at the end of life. Still, Murphy is non-committal about whether it will pass this session, saying, “We’ll see if there is time on the agenda., for this issue to be well vetted for the people of Minnesota may take more time than one session.” House Democratic Majority Leader Jamie Long says he doesn’t know if an end-of-life options bill has the votes to pass. The Otter Tail County Housing and Redevelopment Authority is seeking proposals from qualified individuals interested in entering into an agreement as an independent contractor with the Otter Tail County Housing and Redevelopment Authority to provide services to support staff on various housing related programs and projects for a period of one year with an option to renew for an additional two years. The Otter Tail County HRA’s mission is to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities to individuals and families as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives. Presently that includes the following programs and services: management of the Housing Choice Voucher Program and 13 scattered public housing units, implementation of Small Cities Development Grants, administration of various rehabilitation and down payment assistance resources and the financing and development of affordable housing. Proposals, including an outline of qualifications, relevant experience and fee structure, should be submitted to Amy Baldwin, Otter Tail County HRA Executive Director at abaldwin@ottertailcounty.gov or 500 West Fir Avenue, Fergus Falls, MN 56537. Questions can also be directed to Amy Baldwin. Proposals are due by 8:30 am on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
