Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM)-

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a possible scam that is impersonating their office.

The Becker County Sherriff’s Office say they have received reports of a possible scam where scammers are using their office’s phone number to reach out to residents. Once a resident picks up one of these phone calls, they are informed that they have missed a Becker County court appearance and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

The scammers would then go on to say that the warrant can be cancelled with an immediate payment over the phone. Officials say this is a scam and that law enforcement would not ask for over-the-phone payments.

The Sheriff’s office advises that anyone that receives one of these calls should immediately hang up the phone and report the scam call to their local police and the Becker County Sherriff’s Office.
