Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Laker boys basketball team remains undefeated after beating the Hawley Nuggets at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
In a game that saw both teams play hard from start to finish, Detroit Lakes emerged victorious with a score of 75-66, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance of senior Devon Berg, who scored 23 points.
Hawley’s senior guard, Brevin Stoa, also put on a great show, finishing the first half with 14 points and scoring a game-high 31 points. Stoa made history by recording his 1,000th career point in the first half.
The Lakers started the game strong, leading 36-30 at the half. However, the second half was a tightly contested affair, with Detroit Lakes forced to turn to their bench after Berg and Brandon Marsh picked up three fouls each.
It was Nick Buboltz who came off the bench to provide a much-needed spark for the Lakers, contributing two big blocks and 15 points to the team’s final score. Buboltz was perfect at the free-throw line, finishing with five points from the stripe.
With this win, the Lakers’ record improves to 6-0, and they will be looking to build on this success in their holiday tournament at Moorhead on December 27th when they play Roseville.
The Nuggets fall to 2-4, after a two game winning streak.
Next up on KRCQ, the girl’s baseketball team travels to Thief River Falls on Tuesday the second of January, before a Hawley girls and boys basektball double header at DGF on Thursday, Jan. 4.
