Girls Basketball: Lakers lose their first game of the season

Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes girls’ basketball team experienced their first loss of the season on Thursday night, as they were defeated by the Alexandria Cardinals with a score of 72-28.

The visiting Cardinals played a tough, aggressive defense that caused the Lakers to turn the ball over multiple times, leading the Cardinals to their fourth victory of the season.

Ten players from Alexandria contributed to the scoring, with Lauren Beyer being the top scorer for the Cardinals with 13 points. Meanwhile, the Lakers had only three players who scored, with Karlee Mace being their top scorer with 13 points.

This loss puts the Lakers’ record at 2-1 for the season.

The team will have a chance to redeem themselves on Tuesday, December 12th when they take on the Bemidji Lumberjacks at home.

The Cardinals’ record improves to 4-1, and they will be back in action Dec. 8, hosting the Willmar Cardinals.
