Hawley, Minn. (KRCQ) – The Hawley Nuggets Girls Basketball team opened their season Tuesday Night hosting the Ada-Borup West Cougars.
The Nuggets opened on a 6-0 run, but the Cougars fought back and tied it at 30, late in the first half, and had a 35-34 lead at the half. Senior Izzy Steer had 22 points at the half.
The Cougars also tied it at 39, early in the second half, but from that point on, Hawley pulled away and finish off a 72-61 victory on KRCQ.
Izzy Steer did finish with 40 points for the game and that set a NEW School Record, breaking the previous record of 38 in the 2007-2008 season by Angie Jetvig.
Izzy Steer was named the Muscatell Burns Ford MVP of the game.
Next up for the Girls is Friday night at Pelican Rapids. The Boys open their Season on Friday, as well, at 7:30pm on KRCQ, hosting Ada-Borup West.
