Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Lakers have had an impressive season so far, with a 4-0 record. In their last game against Thief River Falls Prowlers, they won 43-24, dominating their opponent in all aspects of the game. The team hopes to continue their success on Friday when they travel to Morris.
The Lakers’ success this season is largely due to their solid defensive play. So far this season, they have managed eight takeaways and prevented their opponents from succeeding on third downs, with only a 25% success rate. Laker standout Mason Carrier leads the team in tackles with 40 this season. He also had a fumble recovery against Prowlers and one interception this season. The team’s strength lies in their control at the line of scrimmage, and the Prowlers could not break through their defense.
On the offensive end, the Lakers have converted on 42% of their third-down conversions and have earned 67 first downs in the first four games. The team has also averaged 292.25 rushing yards per game. In their last game against the Prowlers, Charlie Zok led the team in rushing with six carries for 112 yards. So far, this year’s leading rusher is Easton Wahl. He has 61 carries for 509 yards and six touchdowns.
Quarterback Caden Strand has been connecting with Cody Bartnes through the air. In their last game against the Prowlers, Strand threw two touchdown passes to Bartnes, one for 30 yards and the other for 15 yards. So far, Strand has thrown for 426 yards, completing 23 of 36 passes for four touchdowns and two interceptions. Bartnes, with 12 catches for 283 yards and four touchdowns, is Strand’s favorite target.
This Friday’s game will be the first time Detroit Lakes and Morris Area have met on the football field. The Tigers enter Friday’s game with a 3-1 record and suffered their first loss last week against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 42-7.
Catch the game on KDLM, with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. and the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
