Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes football team is now looking forward to their homecoming week following a dominating win on the road against the Fergus Falls Otters last Friday night. The Lakers won with a score of 31-6 and they were able to establish a 21-0 lead during the first half, continuing their momentum in the second half, which improved their record to 3-0.
The Lakers were able to amass a total of 413 yards of offense in the game, with a balanced rushing attack. Mason Carrier carried the ball 12 times for 79 yards and a touchdown while Easton Wahl had 10 carries for 84 yards and a TD. Will Martin and Charlie Zok also had a combined 13 carries, resulting in a total of 79 yards and a touchdown. Caden Strand’s passing was also solid, as he was 7-11 passing for 116 yards and threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Cody Bartnes. Bartnes led the team in receiving with three catches for 61 yards.
Defensively, the Lakers were able to shut down the Otter’s offense with solid pressure up front, forcing two interceptions. Andy Bartnes and Charlie Zok were able to get the interceptions. Mason Carrier led the team with seven tackles, two of which were for a loss.
The Lakers will host the Thief River Falls Prowlers this week to cap off the homecoming week celebration. Thief River Falls has a record of 1-2 on the season after winning their season opener against Roseau but subsequently losing to Morris Area 40-21 and DGF Rebels last week 36-0, who were the state runners-up last year.
The game will start on Friday night at 7 p.m., and the Laker Booster Club will serve turkey sandwiches from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during their tailgate party. Tune into KDLM for all the action, with the pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m.
