Detroit Lakes, Minn (KDLM) –
The Laker boys’ soccer team kicked off their season on Thursday night with a match against the Little Falls Flyers. Under the direction of new head coach, Jessie Olsen, the Lakers were eager to showcase their technical skills and team unity. Although both teams had strong starts, the Flyers ultimately won 5-2, Adrian Ambriz of Little Falls finished the night with three goals and the Flyers dominated time of possession throughout.
The Flyers unofficially outshot the Lakers 22 to 4. Laker goalie Erick Ziegler made a number of nice saves to keep the game within reach. The Lakers found offense through Conner Jensen who had to briefly sit on the sideline to due to an ankle injury. Jensen scored the Lakers’ first goal 8 minutes into the second half and scored his second goal in the late stages with about a minute to go.
The loss drops DL’s record to 0-1, and they will return to action on Saturday when they take on another Section 8AA opponent, the Alexandria Cardinals, on the road.
