Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – Kids can earn a Junior Ranger patch courtesy of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources by completing tasks in a new activity book available for the first time last Friday.
Kids can begin the adventure by picking up a free Junior Ranger booklet during regular office hours at state parks across Minnesota.
Naturalists created the booklet activities to encourage learning and exploration for kids between the ages 6-10 or anyone “young at heart.”
The program lets kids learn different ways plants and animals adapt to their environment through a mix of on-the-page and on-the-trail activities.
Through the activities, kids can discover state park habitats, move like animals, focus on their senses, learn how to protect wildlife, avoid poison ivy, and outsmart ticks among other learning activities.
When kids finish the booklet, they earn a free Junior Ranger patch, which they can obtain at any Minnesota state park ranger station or visitor center.
