FARGO, ND (KDLM) – One officer has died and two others remain in critical condition, according to a report from WDAY Radio in Fargo.

Emergency responders were called to an accident scene at 25th Street South near 9th Avenue around 3 pm on Friday. Witnesses say as law enforcement officers were analyzing the scene, one of the drivers pulled a rifle from the trunk of the vehicle and began firing at the officers. At least five people were shot, including the three officers.

Law enforcement officers also evacuated an area of the 2800 block of 23rd Avenue South on Friday evening where officials begin to gather evidence related to the shooting. Sources tell WDAY Radio that a suspect was found dead in the Bluemont Village Apartments. FBI and US Marshalls were dispatched to the scene.

Meanwhile, officers gathered outside Sanford Medical Center in Fargo following the attack awaiting any news. As night fell, lights were activated on squad cars and ambulances, and law enforcement and first responders did a procession from the ER, down I-94 and through Fargo. This is something police traditionally do when a fellow officer or officers have died.

The City of Fargo, nor the Fargo Police Department have yet to provide any details on Friday’s events. Gregg Schildberger, Director of Communications & Governmental Affairs for the City of Fargo, told media members that an update would likely come sometime on Saturday.
