PERHAM, MN (KDLM/KPRW) – Perham Public Schools Activities Director Erin Anderson announced Kyle Haberman will be named the new Head Boys Basketball Coach, pending school board approval. Haberman will take over for longtime head coach Dave Cresap, who resigned after 28 years at the helm to coach at Minnesota State Fergus Falls.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Haberman aboard as the new head coach for this program,” Anderson said in a press release on Monday.  “His experience, passion, and enthusiasm for the game of basketball, as well as his commitment to serve students, will certainly prove valuable in many ways. I have no doubt Coach Haberman will be fully invested in honoring the success that’s already been built, as well as striving to grow it even further.”

Haberman hopes to carry on the Perham tradition of excellence with the boys basketball program. The Yellowjackets have been to the state tournament five times in the last 12 years, including a state championship in 2011. Also, the Yellowjackets were undefeated in 2020 and in the Section 8AA Championship game before the COVID-19 Pandemic ended that season. The run included seven straight Section 8AA Championship game appearances, prior to the 2022-23 season.

“I am incredibly humbled to be the next head boys basketball coach,” Haberman said. “The Perham boys basketball program is widely known as one of the best in the state and I hope to continue that success. I’m truly excited to start the next chapter of Perham hoops.”

During his tenure at LPA, Haberman was named the Section 6A Coach of the Year twice, helping the Raiders to back-to-back Section 6A Championships in 2016 and 2017. His 2016 team posted a 26-5 mark, while the 2017 team ended with a 22-8 overall record. It was the first trips to the Class A Tournament for the Raider basketball program.
