One found dead in vehicle of gun shot wound in Pine Point
Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – A man was found dead in a vehicle of a gunshot wound near the village of Pine Point in Becker County on Sunday evening.
According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, on June 25 at 6:38 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a report of an individual who was found shot in a vehicle in the village.
Upon arrival, deputies found the deceased male victim and noticed a suspicious vehicle leaving the scene.
Investigators would like anyone who sees a gray, Pontiac G6 with White Earth license plate number 22079, to contact the Becker County Sheriff’s Office immediately at: 218-847-2661.
Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander said law enforcement would like the location and direction of travel included with any tips about the Pontiac G6, but members of the public should not put themselves in harm’s way for the information.
“Number one, we want people to be safe, and we don’t want them to put themselves in any position where it could cause harm to them,” said Glander. “If the (public) sees that vehicle, the best thing they can do is give us the location of where it was seen, the direction of travel, and call us immediately.”
The identity of the victim will be released once a medical examination is completed and law enforcement stated they believe this to be an isolated incident with no additional threat to the public.
“We believe that this is an isolated incident,” said Glander. “And because of that, we believe there is no further danger to the public, but, obviously, we don’t want people to put themselves in harm’s way either.”
Multiple law enforcement agencies as well as the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Becker County Sheriff’s Office with their ongoing investigation.

Lake Park-Audubon fishing team receives a $5,000 shopping spree from one of their boat captains
The Lake Park-Audubon fishing team received an unexpected $5,000 donation from one of their boat captains after he won a Heart of the Lakes Fishing League raffle.
55-year-old Paul Hogenson, of rural Audubon, said he already knew what he was going to do with the $5,000 shopping spree, if his name was pulled as the winner.
“I was just driving to work one morning and I just thought, ‘what would I do with $5,000 to Scheels,'” said Hogenson. “And it was just one of those total mental clarity moments where it said, ‘give it to the kids.'”
Hogenson also said he knows the Heart of the Lakes fishing teams struggle to find boat captains every year, so when his nephew, a current team member, asked him, it was a no-brainer to help out with the season.
During a few outings with the team, he noticed some of the members didn’t have replacement gear for broken rods and lost tackle.
“(The donation) was definitely for a reason and come to find out, later on, the one little girl that was with us at the drawing, she didn’t even have a fishing rod, it got broken,” said Hogenson. “I find out a couple weeks later that another girl, her fishing rod got broken. Just knowing now that those kids really need stuff to fish, and they love to fish. So, it was pretty crazy.”
Hogenson said he wishes they would’ve had competitive fishing teams when he was in high school and has really enjoyed seeing lakes area students take a resounding interest in the competitive outdoors.
He also had a message to anyone looking to make a real difference in someone else’s life.
“I would just hope that if there is somebody out there, who is in a similar situation, uncles, aunts, whatever, if you see someone who is struggling, help them,” said Hogenson.
The Lake Park-Audubon fishing team’s next competition will be on Detroit Lake this Thursday, June 29.
Feed The 5,000 kicks off in Detroit Lakes
Feed the 5,000 officially kicked off at Christian Fellowship Church in Detroit Lakes yesterday.
The week-long event hosted at the church will provide anyone who stops by their Highland Drive location a free meal of either a hamburger, hot dog, or bratwurst.
Pastor Tim Rice, of Christian Fellowship Church and an event organizer, said the original Feed The 5,000 event was hosted by the church in 2015, even though that event actually fed about 5,200 people. Rice said he thinks they may top that number from eight years ago because they noticed a lot of fun at the original event and word travels.
“One of the things that we really experienced (at the 2015 event) was a lot of people just sitting around and having great fellowship,” said Rice, during a recent stop into Hodgepodge on KDLM. “They are sitting around having a meal together, they are sitting out in the parking lot, they’re at picnic tables, they’re inviting their friends and their neighbors. It was just a great place to have, kind of, a great big community picnic.”
He also said people are encouraged to stop by more than once this week because one line is a famous religious parable stuck out to him, which is something he wanted to make sure the event replicated.
“One line in there that really jumped out to me as a pastor is when Jesus was feeding the 5,000, he fed them until they were satisfied, or until they were full, or until they’d had enough,” said Rice.
He added the food has been ordered and it’s on-site in a refrigerated truck, so it needs to get eaten by someone.
The Feed The 5,000 event will be open at Christian Fellowship Church on Highland Drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day this week and will wrap up on Friday, June 30.
