Laker Football Schedule Released; open At Rocori on September 1st

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers football team has released its schedule for the upcoming fall season

The Lakers finished the regular season 5-3 last year. After a quick 4-0 start with big wins over Fergus Falls, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Perham, the Lakers lost three of their last four to Pequot Lakes, Class AA state champion Barnesville, and Class AAA state runner-up Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton with a win over Park Rapids sprinkled in the middle.

The Lakers lost to Becker in the 8AAAA semifinals, 31-14.

The Lakers will open up the 2023 campaign with a game at defending section champion Rocori on Friday, September 2nd. That will be followed by a home game against Perham to defend The Paddle on September 8th, and a game at Fergus Falls on September 15th. Homecoming week will be September 18-22nd this year, with the week capped off with the homecoming game against Thief River Falls.

The Lakers will then travel to Morris on September 29th to face the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers. According to the Laker Football History book, this will be the first-ever matchup between the two towns.

That will be followed by a game at DGF on October 6th, hosting section opponent Little Falls on October 13th (the Lakers last played the Flyers in the 2016 season opener), followed by the MEA short-week game against East Grand Forks on Wednesday, October 18th.

The Laker football team has been hard at work this off-season with players participating in numerous camps and off-season workouts.
