Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The inaugural Sax on the Beach beanbag tournament, hosted by Go Go Rental on City Beach in Detroit Lakes, saw 18 teams of bag hurlers compete for nearly $2,000 in cash and prizes on Saturday.
The double elimination tournament drew dozens of onlookers as the teams tried to win the four consecutive games required to be crowned tournament champion.

Grant Longbella, member of GoGo Rental and an event organizer for the competition, said he was pleased with the turnout for the, hopefully, annual event.
“It feels good just to have everybody come together and have a blast outside and just play some bags,” said Longbella. “And it’s a good turnout for the first year and we just wanted to see how people would respond to things. We have our products out here for people to see, to use, to try-out and just really show them everything that (GoGo Rental) has to offer.”
He also said, while there weren’t any professional bags players in this first competition, some of the earlier matches ended rather quickly.
“Our first round, we did have a few that were done pretty quick, that’s for sure, there were some quick games in the first round” he said. “But we’ve got longshots, we’ve got different stuff going on for people to win some gift cards, some other prizes, shirts, sweatshirts, anything we’ve got out here, just trying to get our name out.”
Top payouts for the tournament was a $750 award to the first place team, but prize money was also awarded to the second and third place teams, as well as, the consolation bracket champion.
