ST. MICHAEL, MINN (KDLM) – Junior Grace Gunderson won the state high jump title at Day One of the Class AA Individual State Track and Field Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School on Friday.
Gunderson won a three-way tie for the Class AA Championship with a jump of 5-05. Rylee Johnson, who is at state competing in three events (high jump, 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay), finished 13th in the high jump with a jump of 5-00.
Johnson also placed fourth in the 100m hurdle prelims with a time of 15.39 which puts her in Saturday morning’s finals.
The Laker girls 4x100m team of Johnson, Jerzie Horner, Ella Paulson, and Abby Larson finished first in the 4x100m prelims with a time of 49.0 seconds. The girls not only broke the DLHS 4x100m relay record that they set at the section meet on June 3rd but also set the Class AA State Meet record.

Larson also made the 100m finals with a seventh-place finish (12.53), and also took 13th in the 200m dash with a time of 26.57.
On the boys side, Ethan Carrier finished eighth in the 100m dash (11.11) and will run in the finals on Saturday morning. Mason Carrier finished 16th overall (11.35). The Carrier brothers were also half of the boys 4x100m relay team, along with Jake Pavek and Cameron Marxen, that finished 10th overall with a time of 43.23.
Evan Thomas finished 14th in the 400m dash (52.55).
Coming up on Saturday: Lawson Greene will compete in the discus (10:15 am) and Jerzie Horner will compete in the pole vault (9 am). Rylee Johnson will run in the 100m hurdles finals at 9:54 am, Abby Larson will compete in the 100m dash finals at 10:10 am, Ethan Carrier will run in the 100m dash finals at 10:16 am, and the girls 4x100m relay team will run at 11:08 am.
