Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM) – A Detroit Lakes man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Sauk Centre.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, on June 4 at 1:32 a.m., dispatchers received a report of a vehicle in a roadside ditch and man lying in the roadway on the 43000 block of County Road 17, about two miles northwest of Sauk Centre.

Upon arrival, officers found the man, identified as 24-year-old Collin James Flynn of Detroit Lakes, and transported him to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounce dead.

According to the news release, Flynn is believed to have been travelling southbound on County Road 17, heading toward Sauk Centre, when his 2012 GMC Terrain veered off the road and struck an oncoming approach, which caused the vehicle to vault and roll several times.

In a social media post, members of Flynn’s family said: Collin was such a light in so many lives, not to mention his laugh and smile were so contagious … We are grateful being surrounded by those who loved Collin and it’s helping us work our way through this tragedy … We ask that people keep posting videos and pictures with him, it’s nice getting to see that smile.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation; however, the sheriff’s office believes alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.
