Holmes Theatre adds 26-foot movie screen to stage

Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes just added a 26-foot movie screen to its list of amenities.

In a social media post, the historic venue celebrated the new addition and added they will now be able to incorporate movies, live-streaming events and other visual elements to be used by the artists who perform on their stage.

Elle LaMere, marketing director for the Holmes Theatre, said the screen installation above the stage nearly completes a long series of renovations, which also included a remodeled ballroom, entrance lobby and new balcony seats.

“The seating, it was like wooden chairs before, so it wasn’t that comfortable,” said LaMere. “So now, they are padded seats so they will help with the acoustics in that room as well. Kind of absorb some of that background noise and make sure that the sound isn’t bouncing off those wooden chairs anymore.”

LaMere said they just have a couple final touches before the renovations would be complete.

“There’s just some sound (equipment) that they are going to be connecting to make sure that the screen can also play sound as well,” she said. “I think that’s the last aspect is to make sure (the sound equipment) is connected properly.”

She added the new drop screen can really be an asset for any client who wants to add visual elements to a presentation and makes their venue stand-out in a tourism-heavy community like Detroit Lakes. But, she also thinks they will start smaller, and simpler uses.

“Definitely some of the first test runs are going to be some movies,” said LaMere. “And we’re really excited about how we can incorporate (the screen) into our season.”

LaMere also said the Holmes Theatre isn’t the only part of their large community-focused complex with renovations; the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center just remodeled their women’s locker rooms.
