COLD SPRING, MN (KDLM) – The Laker boys golf team finished sixth at the Section 8AAA golf tournament at Rich Spring Golf Club in Cold Spring on Wednesday, shooting a combined 629 over the two-day tournament.
The Alexandria Cardinals will once again represent Section 8AAA at the State meet at Bunker Hills Golf Course June 13-14, winning the meet with a convincing 597, 19 strokes ahead of second-place Moorhead and Sartell.
Senior Logan Schons closed out his Laker career with a ninth-place finish with a 79/73/152. Schons made three birdies on the back nine on Wednesday to climb within two strokes of an individual State tournament berth. The top-five individuals that aren’t on the winning team advance to State to compete individually.
Freshman Lawsen Justesen tied for 18th overall (76/82/158), freshman Brock Burhans finished in a tie for 30th (79/83/162), and sophomore Tyler Stensgard (85/78/163) finished 33rd for the top-four scorers for the Lakers. Freshman Carter Whitworth (84/80/164) and senior Ben Hines (84/80/164) finished tied for 34th.
Section 8AAA had a four-way tie for medalist honors with Bemidji’s Nick Yarrow, Alexandria’s Braeden Sladek, Brainerd’s Dawson Ringler, and Sartell’s Lance Hamak finishing with two-day totals of 146.
With the section realignment for the 2023-24 season, the Lakers will drop down to Class AA this season
