Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – Becker County will be digitizing its marriage records in coming months.
On May 16, members of the Becker County Board approved a more than $14,000 contract with Information Systems Corporation of Eden Prairie, Minnesota to scan and make digital copies of the documents.
Currently, Becker County marriage records only exist in a paper copy and having a digital backup is always a good idea, said Barry Nelson, chair of the Becker County Board, and Susan Syvertson, head of the county recorder’s office.
“One thing Susan said during our finance committee meeting yesterday was this was the only copy of your marriage certificates that there is, so, if they happen to disappear, there would be nothing else,” said Nelson.
Funding for the project will come out of Becker County’s technology fund.
ISC is also currently digitizing Becker County documents from the Recorder’s Office, Assessor’s Office and Planning and Zoning Office.
