Lakeville man arrested following structure fire and firearm discharge in Wadena County

Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – A Lakeville man was arrested in Wadena County and is being held pending charges of arson, assault and reckless discharge of a firearm stemming from an incident occurring in rural Wadena on May 13.

At 3:35 p.m., Wadena County emergency dispatchers received a report of a structure fire in North Germany Township that may have been intentionally set by a suspect who fled the scene.

According to a Wadena County Sheriff’s Office news release, upon arrival to the scene, first responders discovered the structure was a “total loss,” and the suspect threatened the 911-caller and their son with a firearm before fleeing the scene.

The suspect, 47-year-old Jason Goble, was located about an hour later in the Sebeka West Cemetery in Red Eye Township.

However, as law enforcement made contact with Goble, he retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired three rounds into a wooded area next to the cemetery, which caused law enforcement to retreat to a safe distance and await further resources.

A shelter-in-place notification was sent out to the surrounding residences during the incident and a Wadena and Hubbard Counties combined SWAT unit was dispatched with an Otter Tail County armored vehicle.

As the SWAT unit approached Goble with the armored vehicle, Goble fled the cemetery on foot into a swampy area and was apprehended a short time later.

Goble was examined at Astera Health in Wadena and is currently being held at the Wadena County jail.
