Detroit Lakes, Minn. (KDLM) – The powersports repair and maintenance program offered at M State in Detroit Lakes is moving Moorhead, according to a May 4 news release from the college.
The small engine repair and maintenance program was first offered in Detroit Lakes in 1967 and was initially offered to respond to a regional demand for small engine mechanics.

One of the program’s founding faculty members, Barney Cummings, said the program was exceedingly popular early on and sought after by students who wanted to open up their own repair shops.
Overall, more than 1,400 students have graduated through M State’s PowerSports Technology program over the decades.
M State’s Moorhead campus houses the school’s Transportation Center, which includes labs and classroom space for the college’s automotive and diesel equipment programs.
Glen Bucholz, a current powersports instructor at M State, said, “We’re looking forward to our new adventure in Moorhead, with its larger student base, where we will be able to provide the industry with even more qualified technicians.
