Hackel, Rypkema lead the way for area track and field at Hamline Elite Meet

St. Paul, Minn (KDLM) – Jaden Hackel of Perham and Jade Rypkema of Nevis were among the first-place finishers at the Hamile Elite Meet in St. Paul on Friday evening. The Elite Meet takes the best high school track and field athletes from all three classes and pits them against each other.

Hackel won the triple jump with a leap of 36-10.00, which also breaks her own PHS school record. Three other Yellowjackets were at Hamline for the meet: Gracie Morris finished fifth in the pole vault (11-03 PR), Lauren Rustad was sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.77), and Bjorn Anderson finished seventh in both the 800m (1:57.77 PR) and 1600 (4:19.35 PR).

Reigning Class A State Cross Country champion Jade Rypkema of Nevis won the girls 3200m race with a time of 10:37.75. Liddy DeWulf was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 35-10.

Alexander Jensen of Fergus Falls placed second in the shot put with a throw of 57-5 and sixth in the discus with a 154-06. Shane Zierden placed tenth in the triple jump with a 41-02.25.

Grace Gunderson of Detroit Lakes competed in the high jump, placing 10th with a jump of 5-00.

The boys 4x100m (43.67) and 4×200 (1:31.30) relay teams from Moorhead each placed sixth overall. The girls 4×100 team also placed sixth in their race with a time of 50.46. Individually, Michael Huago was sixth in the long jump (20-09.25) and Alexis Olderbak was 13th in the triple jump (33-3).
