Laker Girls Golf Wins Alexandria Invite; Knoop Finishes Second Overall

ALEXANDRIA, Minn (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers girls golf team traveled to Alexandria to compete in the 13-team Alexandria Area Invite on Wednesday morning and came away with their first win of the season, winning the tournament by eight strokes.

Junior Hanna Knoop got off to a hot start, recording birdies on four of her first eight holes, including three straight to start back nine. Knoop finished +4 for the tournament, three strokes behind medalist Hannah Boraas of Alexandria.

Junior Laura Syltie finished fifth place overall with an 83 on the Par 72 Alexandria Golf Club. Sophomore Sydney Miller and freshman Tatum Gatheridge finished tied for sixth with 85s, seventh-grader Sophie Christianson was tied for 23rd with a 93, and freshman Maddie McDougall was tied for 29th with a 95 in the 78-golfer field.

The Lakers’ next meet is Friday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.
