Detroit Lakes , Minn. (KDLM) – Road work on West Lake Drive is set to begin this week in Detroit Lakes.
Construction crews will be closing County Road 6 from Highway 59 to West Lake Drive on Monday, April 24 to start work on pavement removal and storm sewer installation. The construction is expected to finish, and the road reopened for normal traffic, by the end of the week in a gravel-state. Pavement is scheduled to be added to the roadway later in the spring.
No detour for the County Road 6 road closure will be posted and drivers should use alternate routes.
In an email, Jon Pratt, city engineer for Detroit Lakes, said contractors do not have plans to close or detour West Lake Drive phase two between County Road 6 to the Pelican River this spring as they finish grading for the multi-use trail and place concrete. Phase two is expected to be completed in mid-June.
However, phase one of the West Lake Drive project, between Legion Road and County Road 6, will be closed to all traffic beginning May 1 through the remainder of the construction project. Pratt added these closures will allow for dewatering operations and the installation of stormwater and utility enhancements before they begin installation of the multi-use trail and the new roadway.
A detour will be posted for phase one of the project with construction expected to conclude in late-June.
