LAKE CITY, Minn (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Laker girl’s golf team drove four and a half hours south down to the bluffs of Lake City in an attempt to escape the snow for their first competition of the season. While they found green grass and open courses, conditions were windy, rainy, and snowy as the Lakers finished fourth overall at the Lake City Girls Invite on Friday.
Junior Hannah Knoop led a very young Lakers with a fifth-place finish, shooting an 81 on the Par 72. 7th grader Sophie Christianson and sophomore Sydney Miller each carded 92s, which put them in 18th place overall. Freshman Tatum Gatheridge shot a 95 (T26), eighth-grader Maya Boeke shot a 99 (T32) and eighth-grader Jaycie Sliper shot a 104 (T37).
Lake City’s Jordana Windhorst Knudsen won medalist honors with a 73 on her home course.
The Lakers have two meets on the schedule this week: Wednesday at Alexandria Golf Club (rescheduled from April 13th) and Friday at Bemidji Town and Country Club.
