FERGUS FALLS, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Track and Field teams competed outdoors for the first time in 2023 at the Snow-B-Gone Invite in Fergus Falls on Tuesday and came away with first-place team finishes for both the boys and girls teams.
The meet, ironically, moved up from Thursday because of weather concerns and was attended by seven teams: Fergus Falls, Ottertail Central, Hillcrest Lutheran, Wahpeton, Breckenridge, Horace, and Detroit Lakes.
Abby Larson took first in the 100m (13.37), and the 200m (28.03), and anchored the winning 4x100m relay (51.31). Rylee Johnson, also a part of the 4×100 team, won the 100m hurdles (16.67) and PR’d with a first-place finish in the high jump (5’2″). Jerzie Horner, who ran the third leg of the 4×100, also took first place in the pole vault (10’0″), and Ella Paulson took third in the 100m (13.62) and third in the pole vault (7’0″ PR).
Maddie Blahut won the 300m hurdles (53.05 PR) and took second in the 100m hurdles (18.26 PR), Haydon King placed third in the 400m (1:07.66 PR) and was fourth in the long jump (14’1″), Julia Steffl (5:54.05) and Hannah Barberg (5:54.51 PR) finished fourth and fifth in the 1600m, and the 4×800 relay team of Marin Johnson, Saide Johnson, Julia Steffl and Lila Kallstrom took second (10:54.16).

Ethan Carrier won the 100m (11.98) and the 200m (24.83). Jake Pavek was second in the 100m (12.22 PR) and took first in the high jump (5’8″ PR). Alexander Fletcher won the 110m hurdles (17.29) with teammate Brady Wirtz (18.72) finishing second. The Laker 4×200 relay team of Pavek, Davide Giambellini, Charles Kalina, and Jamus Walz took first with a time of 1:42.57.

Brandton Marsh took first place in the triple jump (41’0″), edging out Shane Zierden of Fergus Falls by half an inch. Lawson Green was second in the discus (136’0”) and Braydon Sjoblom (116′ 8″) was third, and Mason Carrier was second in the shootout (45’4″). Coye Braten tied for third place in the pole vault (8’6″) and Gabe Leff finished in fifth place (8’6″).

The girls throwers had a great meet, with Jacee Hauser (34’1″), Brenna Skadsen (32’1″) and Elle Bettcher (30’11”) finishing second, third and fourth in the shot put. In the first discus competition of the year, Hauser (108′ 3″), Bettcher (97’7″), Chelsea Stowe (96’9″ PR) and Skadsem (92’3″ PR) took second through fifth place, respectively.
Lily Anderson took first in the triple jump (33’0″), Grace Gunderson took second place in the high jump (5’0″), and Alonna Moench was fourth in the pole value (7’0″ PR).
The next scheduled meet for Detroit Lakes is at Park Rapids on Tuesday, April 25th.
