DETROIT LAKES, MN (KDLM) – In the traditional end-of-the-season matchup, the Detroit Lakes Lakers Wrestling team hosted the Frazee Hornets Thursday night at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse.
The Hornets got out to a fast start as they opened up a 12-0 lead, through the first two weight classes. The Lakers got going, winning the next three matches. Frazee got a pin at 138 and the Lakers countered with a pin at 145, so halfway through, the Hornets lead 18-16.
Frazee won the last seven matches except for HWT as Frazee takes the dual 48-22. There were two top-10 battles and both went the way of the Hornets: at 160 #3 Jake Nagel beat #10 Cade Okeson 3-1, then #9 Preston Mayfield beat #8 Cade Jackson by a late pinfall at 5:06.
#5 HWT Jeffrey Moen did finish the dual with the only Lakers win in the last seven matches. The Lakers are at a tournament in Albany on Friday before the Section 8AA Team Tournament begins next Thursday.
