Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Giving Hearts Day 2023 is coming up on Thursday, February 9th. Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour fundraising event. Since 2008, Giving Hearts Day has raised more than $138 million dollars for charities across the state.

One of the local non-profits participating in Giving Hearts Day this year is Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics. Minnesota Flyers started Flytime in 2015, which creates a space for all children to come and play, get a little sweaty, build muscle, and challenge themselves through adaptive physical fitness regardless of their abilities. Without your support, over 85 children with developmental disabilities in our community would not have the opportunity to challenge themselves through physical fitness at Flytime.

“Our Flytime program provides schools the opportunity to bring students with special needs over to our facility and use it free of charge,” said director Leesa Lindgaard. “This program is only possible because of donors’ contributions.”

Minnesota Flyers also has a number of volunteer opportunities available too, which you can learn more about at MNflyersgym.org.

Other charities and non-profits taking part in Giving Hearts Day this year include Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, Detroit Mountain, Essentia Health St. Mary’s Foundation, Friends of Tamarac, Humane Society of the Lakes, Heath Resources, Holy Rosary School, Lakes Crisis & Resource Center, and Lend A Hand Up. You can find more info online at GivingHeartsDay.org.
