Wind Chill Advisory for Thursday and Friday Morning

By Zeke Fuhrman Feb 2, 2023 | 11:33 AM

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – A wind chill advisory is in effect for almost the entire state of Minnesota for Thursday and through the morning on Friday.

Forecasters say Thursday temps will fall through the daylight hours, dropping into the single digits below zero. Sustained winds will be anywhere from ten to 20 miles an hour, gusting to 30 miles an hour out of the northwest creating wind chills between -25 and -35.

Thursday night’s low will be around -20. At that low of an air temp, any little bit of wind drives the windchill down. Winds during the evening will be ten to 15 miles an hour, causing windchills to plunge into the 40s below zero. Winds become light and variable after midnight.

The Arrowhead could see wind chill values colder than -50, prompting a windchill warning.

Friday’s temps are set to be in the low single digits above zero with windchills around -30. The winds switch Friday morning and will be coming out of the south, bringing in more average temperatures.

Saturday’s high in Detroit Lakes is 27 degrees. Above zero.

If you do have to be outside, forecasters say to dress in layers and limit time outdoors. Frostbite on exposed skin can set in within minutes.
