Giving Hearts Day Preview: Health Resource Center

DETROIT LAKES, MN (KDLM) – Giving Hearts Day 2023 is coming up on Thursday, February 9th. Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour fundraising event. Since 2008, Giving Hearts Day has raised more than $138 million dollars for charities across the state.

One of the local non-profits participating in Giving Hearts Day this year is the Health Resource Center. HRC is a pregnancy and parenting center that works to remove the barriers families face, by providing services and material support to help them make life-affirming choices, and thrive in parenting.

All services at HRC are free, and that includes pregnancy tests and prenatal vitamins, a first-trimester ultrasound, lactation services, post-abortion support and one-on-one mentoring, pregnancy counseling, educational classes on pregnancy education and childbirth preparation, and other various support programs such as emergency supplies, the onsite Baby Boutique, referrals, and the Cradle of Hope program.

Other charities and non-profits taking part in Giving Hearts Day this year include Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, Detroit Mountain, Essentia Health St. Mary’s Foundation, Friends of Tamarac, Humane Society of the Lakes, Holy Rosary School, Lakes Crisis & Resource Center, Lend A Hand Up, and Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics.
