AUDUBON, MN (KDLM) – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating alleged missing funds from the City of Audubon.
Audubon clerk-treasurer Shallene Stephenson reported that the city was allegedly missing $7,235 in funds. According to the report filed on January 10th, Stephenson believes that the previous clerk wrote a check to herself.
The city’s former clerk-treasurer, Stephanie Poegel left her position in December 2022 and is now the city administrator of Frazee.
Attorney Patrick Bakken is a member of the Audubon City Council and told DL Newpapers that members discussed a possible payroll discrepancy.
“At January 9th meeting, we approved the disbursement of payrolls,” Bakken told Michael Achterling. “So, they did discuss whether there was a discrepancy in what she paid herself.”
