FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – After receiving feedback from the public, the Otter Tail County Commission has put a one-year moratorium on sales of THC products within the county.
In a unanimous vote, the commission decided to put the pause into effect until there are measures in place to protect the public and give retailers guidance on sales.
The state law allowing THC edibles and beverages that was passed this summer does not address regulations like licensing, training, and enforcement. The commission said these gaps made the moratorium necessary.
Cities located in the county that pass local ordinances will be exempt from the moratorium, which will go into effect Feb. 23.
“The support by our Board of Commissioners to take steps to ensure the health and safety of those who call Otter Tail County home is valued,” Otter Tail County Public Health Director Jody Lien said. “While we hope the Minnesota Legislature will further address this issue next session, we now have some time to really review what we need to do here in Otter Tail County.”
