LAKE PARK (KDLM) – Students from Lake Park Audubon school have been named one of 7 Minnesota State Finalists and are among just 300 finalists across the nation in the 13th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition, receiving a $2,500 prize package.
Solve for Tomorrow is a national competition that challenges U.S. public school students in grades 6-12 to explore the role science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) can play in solving some of the biggest issues in their local communities.
Lake Park Audubon’s STEAM class submitted 6 entries into the Samsung Solve for tomorrow contest. The project idea of Oliver Mikkelsen, Chester Retz, Brayden Sandland, and Tripp Eiter was selected. The boys looked at the area of school and personal safety and would like to develop a Biometric lock for backpacks, luggage and other bags.
They will now lead their STEAM class in the next stage of this contest to begin design of prototypes and are looking to work with community resources who can help them further their project development.
