Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes senior Ethan Carrier officially became a member of the Minnesota Golden Gopher football team on Wednesday, signing his letter of commitment to play football for the Gophers next fall as a part of the 2023 recruiting class.

“It’s a dream come true,” Carrier told KDLM. “I’m very blessed to be in this situation. I’ve worked hard my whole life and to have this opportunity is just amazing.”

“It’s a really cool honor for a hard-working young man, ” said head coach Reed Hefta. “It’s awesome to see him get some acknowledgment for the great things that he’s done. It shows his character, shows who he’s grown up with, it shows he’s a great young man and the best is yet to come. We couldn’t be more proud of Ethan.”

Carrier, a 6’1 175 defensive back, is one of the 33-member recruiting class for PJ Fleck’s Gophers for the Class of 2023.

“Ethan had an elite senior season at Detroit Lakes,” Fleck said in his Signing Day press conference on Wednesday. “He comes from a family of die-hard Gopher fans. He can play safety, he can play nickel, and he can continue to move around. You talk about a really aggressive defensive back, Ethan’s the guy.”

Carrier committed to the Gophers last June when he received a walk-on offer from Fleck following a Gopher football camp. His younger brother, Mason, is also committed to Fleck’s Gophers for the class of 2024.
