Detroit Lakes Wrestling Takes Seventh At Brainerd Invite; Moen wins HWT bracket

BRAINERD, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes wrestling team placed seventh in the two-day, 19-team Paul Bunyan Invitational in Brainerd over the weekend.

HWT Jeff Moen won his weight class with a pin of Sartell-St. Stephen’s Tucker Mugg in the 285 finals to push his season record to a perfect 7-0. Moen also won the Alfred Olson Memorial in Fosston on December 3rd.

Henry Lee took second place in the 220 class. Lee is now 4-2 this season, finishing in second place individually in both Brainerd and Fosston the last two weekends.

Tyson Ullyot finished fourth in the 145, Cade Okeson was fifth in the 160, and Cade Jackson (who had to medically forfeit from the tournament due to illness) was sixth in the 182 class.

As a team, the Lakers finished with 107 points. Bemidji won the meet with a team score of 212.

The Lakers next meet is in Pequot Lakes next weekend, where they’ll be one of 25 teams entered in the Road Crew Invite December 16-17 which will also feature Section 8AA rivals Perham, Park Rapids, and PLPRB.
