(KDLM) – Minnesota Golf Hall of Famer and renowned course designer Joel Goldstrand passed away last weekend at the age of 83.
Goldstrand, a native of Worthington, won two NCAA golf championships at the University of Houston in 1969 and 1970, then had an 8-year career on the PGA, finishing 12th at the 1970 US Open at Hazeltine in Chaska, and played in the 1971 Masters. Following his pro career, he became the head pro at Minneapolis Golf Club, becoming a full-time course designer in 1989. Goldstrand is credited with designing over 100 courses in Minnesota, Iowa, and the Dakotas, including Wildflower in Detroit Lakes, Blueberry Pines in Menahga, the Meadows and Village Green in Moorhead, Whitetail Run in Wadena, and the courses at Perham Lakeside. Goldstrand also designed Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, and the Grand View Lodge courses in Nisswa.
