MOORHEAD (KDLM) – Republican state Senate candidate Dan Bohmer is in a political firestorm after the Senate DFL Caucus bought ads alleging details of his divorce, and Moorhead police went to his home Wednesday night during a dispute with his ex-wife over a child-custody pickup.
The DFL attack ad says, “Bohmer recorded his son while he showered…. He called his own wife a c***, stupid, a parasite. We should never call Dan Bohmer ‘senator’.” Bohmer says the claims “were dismissed by law enforcement in court for lack of evidence and merit” and Democrats know it, “As a combat veteran and an EMT, I’ve been through and seen a lot, all over the world. But this is a new low that’s really hard to understand.”
Bohmer is calling on his opponent to “request these dishonest ads be stopped immediately.” Democrat Rob Kupec has said the ad goes too far in mentioning one of Bohmer’s children, but says “it is important to remember that Dan Bohmer is not the victim here….We must support survivors of domestic violence.”
Bohmer and Kupec are running for State Senate District 4 which covers portions of Becker including Detroit Lakes, Clay, and Norman counties in the northwestern part of the state. It is currently represented by DFLer Kent Eken who is not running for reelection.
