City Expects West Lake Drive to Reopen in next “couple of weeks”

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The city of Detroit Lakes says they expect West Lake Drive to reopen in the next couple of weeks.

The city says contractors are making good progress on the project. Portions of curb and gutter have been constructed and the remaining areas are in process or will begin within the next week. Pavement is completed in just a small area on the south end of the project and the remaining paving work will be constructed over the next one to two weeks.

“We know that this project creates an inconvenience for many because of the longer than usual detour route and are working with the contractors to reopen the roadway as soon as possible,” said the city.

The area remains closed to all thru traffic; added traffic only slows progress, creates safety concerns, and ultimately delays the reopening of the roadway.

The city asks that you continue to abide by the posted detour routes.
