Seeds for Section Football Tournaments Announced

(KDLM) – The Minnesota State High School League has released the brackets for the 2022 Section Football tournaments, which begin next Tuesday.

The undefeated Wheaton-Herman-Norcross enter the Section 4 9-Man tournament and defending section champions. They’ll play #8 Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday night. They will face the winner of #4 Brandon-Evansville and #5 Sebeka on Saturday. #2 Verndale will play #7 Bertha-Hewitt, and #3 Rothsay plays #6 Hillcrest Lutheran.

New York Mills, the defending 6A Champions, were given the number one overall seed in the 6A tournament after finishing the regular season 7-1. They’ll face #8 Underwood on Tuesday night. #2 Pine River-Backus will play #7 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, #3 OTC will face #6 LPA, and #4 Breckenridge will play #5 Menahga.

In Section 8A, the 7-1 Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds, who are ranked #2 in Class A, were awarded the top seed and will have a first-round bye. They will face the winner of #4 Polk County West and #5 Bagley. #2 Ada-Borup-West will play #7 Fosston on Tuesday night, and #3 Red Lake County will play #6 Red Lake.

The 7-1 Osakis Silverstreakers were given the #1 seed in the Section 6AA tournament, and have a first-round bye. They await the winner of #4 West Central Area-Ashby (the defending section champion) and #5 Pillager. #2 Sauk Center will also have a first-round bye. They will play the winner of #3 Wadena-Deer Creek and #6 Staples-Motley.

The 8-0 Barnesville Trojans enter the Section 8AA tournament as the #1 seed and are seeking their seventh-consecutive trip to the State Tournament. They get a first-round bye in 8AA, and will play the winner of #4 Frazee and #5 Hawley on Saturday (The Frazee vs Hawley game will be played at Mollberg Field in Detroit Lakes since Frazee’s field is under construction). #2 Pelican Rapids gets a bye on the other side of the bracket. They’ll play the winner of #3 Crookston and #6 Warroad.

In Section 8AAA, the 8-0 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels look for back-to-back section titles. They get a bye in the first round and will play the winner of #4 Thief River Falls and #5 Fergus Falls. Perham draw the two seed and will play #7 Park Rapids on Tuesday. #3 East Grand Forks will play #6 Roseau.

Rocori eeks out a number one seed over Becker in the Section 8AAAA tournament. Rocori will play the winner of #4 Little Falls and #5 St. Cloud Apollo. #2 Becker will host #3 Detroit Lakes on Saturday at 1 pm.

Sauk Rapids-Rice gets the top seed in Section 8AAAAA, and along with #2 Moorhead, get first-round byes in the tournament. SRR will play the winner of #4 Sartell and #5 Bemidji. Moorhead will get the winner of #3 Alexandria and #6 St. Cloud Tech.
