DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Laker volleyball team finished their final regular season matchup with a win on Tuesday night, defeating St. Cloud Apollo in straight sets 25-22, 25-14, and 25-15. With the win, the Lakers are now 15-3 overall and finish 2-0 in Section 8AAA play this season.
Before the game, the Lakers had speeches honoring the five seniors on the roster. The Laker seniors are Kiah Gloege, Olivia Clark Burnette, Jalynn Gunderson, Maddy Bellanger, and Sadie Stroeing. During the first set, the Lakers played an all-senior lineup, except for junior Ava Jones. During the first set, Kiah Gloege made a great dive for the ball and made a pancake pass to Jalynn Gunderson, who picked up a kill on a strike from the outside position. That point fired up the team and the crowd at Lakeshirts Fieldhouse. The Lakers cruised to victory from that point forward as the Eagles struggled against the strong attack of the Lakers in the second and third sets. The Eagles fell to 1-14 on the season.
For the time being, the standings have Detroit Lakes as the top seed entering the playoffs next week. The official seeds will be released on October 23rd.
