Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk swears in John Cervantes as the newest Detroit Lakes Firefighter, Oct. 11, 2022
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Fire Department added a new member, Tuesday.
John Cervantes was sworn in during the City Council meeting after completing a one-year probationary period with the Department.
The addition is much needed, as the Department has been struggling to recruit new firefighters, “We’re creeping back up to our full roster of 30, if anyone is interested in serving on the Department let us know,” said Mayor Matt Brenk.
Cervantes served on the Thief River Falls Fire Department for 11 years before relocating to Detroit Lakes and is a 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard.
