DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Laker girls soccer team found the back of the night six times to beat Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at home on Tuesday night 6-0. DL’s Haydon King finished the night with three goals to give the Lakers their sixth win of the season, moving their record to 6-8 overall.

The Lakers got on the scoreboard in the first three minutes when King scored her first goal of the game after Abby Larson took the initial shot that was saved by Hillcrest’s goalkeeper Hannah Radzwill. Unfortunately for Radzwill, she gave up a rebound, and King was able to kick the ball into the net to make the score 1-0. Just over ten minutes later, King scored her second of the night on a rush to the net. The Lakers added two more goals before halftime, with Baylee Branden scoring on a rebound off the crossbar and Abby Larson scoring on a long-distance shot.

In the second half, Morgan Kvebak got her name on the scoresheet for the first time scoring with 29 minutes left. King added her third of the night with 18 minutes left to go in regulation, with Branden picking up an assist on the King hat-trick goal.

Defensively the Lakers limited Hillcrest Lutheran Academy to only four shots on goal, and DL’s Elle Bettcher was able to stop every shot she faced to earn the shutout.

The Lakers have two more games before they begin the playoffs as they travel to Bemidji on Thursday and will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at home versus Moorhead. Detroit Lakes is currently in 5th place in Section 8AA, and the playoff seeds will be announced on Sunday.
