Laker Girls XC Places Seventh in Fergus Falls; Boys Finish Eighth

FERGUS FALLS, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Cross Country teams competed in the John Hermes Invite at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls on Thursday afternoon. The girls team placed seventh out of eight teams, and the boys finished eight out of nine.

Senior Julia Steffl paced the Laker girls with an eleventh-place finish and a time of 20:50.8. Freshman Natalie Mohr was the second Laker in with a 39th place finish and a time of 23:22.5. Sophomore Karlie Skarie (23:35.3) and freshman Marin Johnson  (23:42.6) finished 46th and 47th, respectively. Alexandria freshman Citori Halbe won the race with a time of 19:46.0.

Junior Braydon Francis finished 20th in the boys race with a time of 18:24.3. Junior Micah Barberg was 38th with a time of 19:27.3.  Senior Xander Jessen (20:36.0) placed 50th. Junior Owen Sondag of Fargo North won the race with a time of 16:27.9.

The Lakers have three meets left: at Alexandria on October 8th, the MidState Conference Championship at Long Prairie on October 18th, and the Section Championship at Alexandria on October 27th.
