New owners of the Sinclair Station in Detroit Lakes, Lars and Sarah Odegaard and their family
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – BD’s Gas & Grub in Detroit Lakes has new owners and soon a new name.
The Sinclair gas station located near the intersection of Highway 10 and 59 was purchased by Lars and Sarah Odegaard in early September. The Odegaard’s also own and operate The Cormorant Store in Cormorant Village near Lake Park, but for Lars, having a store in Detroit Lakes was a great way to help teach his kids responsibility, “I grew up on a dairy farm and I just really wanted a place for my kids to come to learn how to work.”
The Odegaard family has been busy with the new store, adding in a new coffee area, hand scooped ice cream, new bakery and expanded deli items as well as take & bake pizzas. Even the name of the store is new, or will be soon. The Odegaards are asking the public to help rename the store, the person that suggests the winning name on their Facebook page will win a $250 gift card to the new store.

10 flavors of hand-scooped ice cream are available. Owner, Lars Odegaard’s son, Dennis says Lemon Bar is his favorite.
And while gas prices have been on everyone’s mind recently, Lars says it’s his goal to keep prices competitive, “It’s really interesting, the market changes every day, so we’re just going to try to stay competitive and being fair with everybody and do the right thing.” Because the store is affiliated with Sinclair, known for their big green dinosaur mascot, which supplies fuel to more than 1,600 independent stations across 30 states, Lars says he’s able to save customers 10 cents per gallon of gasoline if they use Sinclair’s DinoPay app, “You get 10 cents off a gallon, every time you come in, so it’s just a consistent way to save 10 cents a gallon every time – people really love it.”
The store, located at 444 Morrow Ave. in Detroit Lakes is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
