FARGO, ND (KDLM) – For the first time since 2010, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are league champions defeating the Milwaukee Milkmen in a thrilling-10 inning game that saw FM trail by five runs in the seventh inning.

The RedHawks trailed the Milkmen 8-3 in the seventh inning before right fielder Alec Olund walked with the bases-loaded to cut into the Milwaukee lead. Infielder Sam Dexter then reached on an infield single that scored another run, then another scored on a throwing error and the Milkmen lead was 8-6.

RedHawks center fielder Evan Alexander then beat out an infield single and, as the ball got away from the Milwaukee first baseman, two more runs scored to tie the game at 8-8.

The Milkmen threatened to take the lead back in the top of the eighth with runners on first and second, but reliever Alex DuBord ended the threat with a huge strikeout. After a scoreless ninth inning, third baseman and eventual Miles Wolff Cup Finals MVP Leo Pina delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring catcher Christian Correa (who was traded from Milwaukee to FM last season) from second base for a 9-8 walk-off victory and the league championship. Pena was two for six in the game with a run scored and the game-winning RBI.

Thursday’s victory was the first American Association championship for the RedHawks, and their sixth championship overall. Their previous league titles in 1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2010 all came while they were in the Northern League.
